MGM Grand Spa Las Vegas

The MGM has been around for a while and since things change over night in Vegas, I did not have high expectations for their spa. I booked in for a Chak-rock-ology 75 minute treatment to see what, if anything, the MGM spa still has to offer since her birth in 1998.

I was immediately impressed as I walked the serene hallway of greenery and buddhas, allowing me to almost step out of the hurried environment and down into my spa cave where I could focus on the treatments and relaxing this body that was polluted by the constant ring of slot machines, the extra oxygen in the casinos and the alcohol flowing like the lazy river outside.

The check in process was swift although the lady leading my spa tour was a little abrupt, but in no time I was robed and warm. Making the tough decisions of whether to sauna or jacuzzi, cold towel myself or sleep in the tea room were my only stresses for the morning. The earth and water elements were already soothing my soul and it took no time for me to sink in to this 30,000 sq ft relaxation mecca.

All the workout and fitness facilities you would expect are here, a small boutique selling the products I love, a salon, and the main spa area with separate areas for men and women. The jacuzzi was one of the largest I have seen but extra foamy, which cautioned me it may need to be cleaned-or have had too much cleaning product in it. Although dated, they have done a great job of keeping the spa tranquil and classy.

The attendants seemed to be attentive replacing the cold cucumber towels often and checking on the sauna and steam room. The tea room while small and lacking ambiance was also lacking- tea! Water, fruit, and granola bars were provided however. For a day pass of $25 you can access the spa- treatments not included.

Back to my Chak-rock-ology treatment, if you are familiar with chakra balancing, this is a fun spin on a hot stone massage. My attendant could have been more gentle on my abused Vegas body, especially given the nature of the treatment; but I digress...

The gem stone placement kept slipping off which I found funny, and occasionally broke my focus. It did not take away from the treatment however and I was able to root myself and enjoy the warmth of the stones. I could have drifted into sleep if my therapist was a little more in tune with the ayurvedic treatments, but I still came away from it like Jello and feeling at peace before returning to the pool and chaos outside.

Check out the Fall Specials at the Spa -they do an amazing job with staying current in services and offering fun twists on standard treatments  http://www.mgmgrand.com/spaoffers/
